Sandpiper
by Camryn Scott
I quickly dart back and forth
Rewarded by the pleasures of each crashing wave
I find treasure when the water moves away,
And comfort from its trustworthy return
I feel small in the midst of the crowd
And in the face of a gigantic ocean
So I learn to navigate,
Around the people,
Around the waves
But never leaving my companions
They are always close behind
Walking the beach
The sandpipers play
If only I never had to leave like they
